Changing gear entirely from my previous reviews… Professor Elemental is a delightfully eccentric, inventive and optomistic rapper who has forged a genre all of his own. He may have started in chap-hop, but he has transcended the genre and delivered, what surely must be a first: an old-school hip-hop and rap album that is also a Steampunk sci-fi concept album about an album long search for an orang-utan butler.
It fuses the ridiculous and outright funny, with smart rhymes, huge beats and some glorious scratching. The whole album works out as a modern reincarnation of the classic radio production of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy (Zaphod Beeblebrox warrants a namedrop), with scifi laser battles taking place mid song and the good Professor playing multiple roles.
This really isn’t for everyone, but give it a chance: this is an utterly unique, wildly ambitious album that delivers on everyone of it’s aims.
